My Interpretation and Environmental Education Training Materials

For over 30 I have been a professional nature guide, environmental educator and interpretive park ranger. Here are the training materials I developed to teach guides and volunteers how to inspire with nature games and become better hike leaders.

Colorado Native Plants

There are many reasons to garden with native plants: they provide beauty through unique displays, provide habitat and food for wildlife, are easy to care for, and conserve water. More info

Making a difference

Ready to get your hands and boots dirty? Want to get involved in local efforts to create a more hospitable, biodiverse habitat for birds, pollinators and critters? There are many hard-working, local community groups that could use your ‘boots on the ground’ volunteer help. Contact me and let me know what you’re interested in and I’ll direct you to a volunteer group that could be a good fit.

Organizations & Non-profits

Long-standing relationships with Boulder County-based organizations/non-profits has enriched my life and work. Visit their websites, learn more and support their efforts. More info

Recommended reading

I love it when program and hike participants ask me what books I would suggest to them as follow-up reading! I’ve created a Dave Sutherland Recommended Reading list here. You can find or order these books through Boulder Bookstore on Pearl Street. Please shop local and support this great community bookstore.
